What that means
An IPSSM is a nurse trained at the master's level who has specialised in mental health. They can diagnose all mental disorders, with the exception of intellectual disability. They prescribe tests (blood work, imaging, ECG or EEG) and medication, then draw up the treatment plan and follow up on it.
Alongside this medical role come therapeutic interventions: psychoeducation, guidance and support, family intervention, or teaching skills drawn from dialectical behaviour therapy.
